Introduction

"Tarheel born and tarheel bred." This phrase, which I hope is near and dear to most of you, is a staple in my vocabulary. My name is Emily Moore and I am a sophomore at the amazing University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and I moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina when I was 10. I plan to study Journalism and Mass Communication with a concentration in Public Relations as well as pursue a major in History.

My dad went to UNC so it has always been a dream of mine to follow in his footsteps. Some of my first memories are of me and my dad sitting in his recliner watching Dean Smith and his tarheels.

I enrolled in JOMC101 in order to make sure the public relations track is right for me. I also find controversies and the transformation of mass media very, very fascinating.

Media influences my life on a day to day basis and has for quite some time. It has always been a thing in my house that we all watch the news every evening and talk about each other's day. As a youth of the digital age, I am a huge fan of social networking. I am on a social networking site more times a day than I can count. It is a major tool for communicating for myself and a great number of my friends.
